A Funeral at St. Stephen’s
The death of a loved one is perhaps the most painful experience one can endure. St. Stephen’s offers the Rite of Christian Burial to all who seek it, as well as pastoral care for those who are grieving. Please contact the parish office at (305) 448-2601.
Guidelines to Consider
Scheduling a Funeral
Due to parking limitations, funerals are held after 3:30 p.m. on school days. Saturday and Sunday afternoon funerals may also be arranged.
The Funeral Service
The funeral service is contained in the (Episcopal/Anglican) Book of Common Prayer.
Memorable Reflections
The officiating pastor will preach a homily; additionally the family, if they choose, is invited to select one person to give a brief eulogy about the deceased.
In Loving Memory
If the service will be held on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, flowers can be paid for and ordered through the church office. They will be used for the Sunday Mass, and the bulletin will reflect that they are in memory of your loved one. Other floral tributes delivered to the church can be taken home by the family/friends, or left at the church. The family may also ask friends to make charitable donations in the name or memory of the deceased.
Funeral Services and Contributions
If music is to be provided, the organist’s fee is $250. The sexton’s fee is $100. While there is no charge for the funeral, it is customary to make a financial contribution to St. Stephen’s Church, as well as to the officiating minister.
