 The Reverend Matthew Machowski joined St Stephen’s Episcopal Church and Day School as our rector on January 11, 2025, bringing a rich tapestry of international experience and a deep commitment to building welcoming and inclusive faith communities. Fr. Matthew’s work reflects his passion for the intersection of religion and politics, with a focus on interfaith dialogue, social justice, and community-building.

Gregory Cheng

Music Director

Gregory Cheng comes to us from Grace Cathedral in San Francisco where he sang as a baritone and countertenor with the Cathedral’s Choir of Men and Boys and served as a frequent guest conductor.

His musical career includes tenure as an Assistant Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, a baritone with the San Francisco Opera Chorus and conductor of wind ensembles, orchestras and choruses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. By day, Greg serves as a financial services executive based in Miami. He lives in Coconut Grove with his wife and daughter.

Head of School

Farrar Richardson brings experience from previous roles at Spartanburg Day School, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and University School of Nashville. Farrar Richardson holds a 1993 – 1994 Masters in Education in Early Childhood Education and Teaching @ Vanderbilt University.

The Rev’d Jorge Sayago-Gonzalez is originally from Puerto Rico and ordained in the Presbyterian Church, PCUSA.

Pastor Jorge has worked for more than 15 years as a worship leader in Puerto Rico and the United States. He earned his undergraduate degree in music from the University of Puerto Rico and received his M.Div. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. In addition to his M.Div., Pastor Jorge completed a residency program with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Before coming to SSEDS he served seven years as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults at Second Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

Stephens. Mike works in finance and tries to stay active in charities that focus on helping children in need. He proudly spends Sunday mornings co-leading the intermediate-aged Sunday School program at St. Stephens. Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Miami Trident’s Rugby Football Club.

He has been a member of St. Stephen’s since 2002. A local attorney, Bob teaches Sunday school and has been active in youth ministries.

Jorge del Valle has been a real estate attorney for over 20 years and is currently General Counsel to a real estate investment and management company. Eric has been an active member of St. Stephen’s since 1971, serving formerly as chancellor and currently as usher and art show volunteer.

Claudia Lang

Claudia Lang moved to Miami in 2020 from London and New York with her husband Jim. She has been an active member of St Stephen’s since May of 2021.

After graduating from Harvard Business School, she spent nearly two decades in finance and asset management. Her charitable interests are focused on education, children, youth and the arts. She enjoys spending her weekends with her family and their young son Cormac.

A senior manager for a global IT value distributor, Julio Moran has been a member of St. Stephen’s since 2010.

Kirsten Wood

Kirsten Wood has been a member of St. Stephen’s for 20 years. She and her husband Tom Leness were married here and children George and Ann were baptized here.

Kirsten served on the vestry a number of years ago as well as having been a member of our choir. Kirsten is professor of U.S. history at FIU and the author of Masterful Women: Slaveholding Widows from the American Revolution through the Civil War and a current manuscript At the Crossroad about the role of taverns in the early US republic.

Deborah Roncallo

Deborah Roncallo has been a member of St. Stephens for over 50 years. As a teenager she was a member of the youth group and she served as the “Youth advisor” on the Diocesan Committee her senior year in high school.

Deb has been a high school teacher for MDCPS for more than 25 years. She currently runs the Special Needs program at her school. For nearly two decades she has also been a teacher at St. Stephen’s in one way or another. She has taught all ages, and she is the co-teacher for our youth group grades 6th thru 12th. She has been on four mission trips to the Dominican with her son and others from St. Stephen’s. She serves on one of our outreach ministries as a Team Leader for P.A.C.T.

Karina Holcomb & Harlan Hoenig

Karina Holcombe, 17, of Immaculata-La Salle High School, and Harlan Hoenig, 14, of Ransom Everglades High School, are our youth representatives on the vestry. Both are lifelong St. Stephen’s parishioners.

Julianne Muñoz

Julie was born and raised in the Boston suburbs. Her husband, Carlos, grew up in Miami and Lima, Peru.

They moved to Miami together 8 years ago and became involved with St. Stephen’s shortly thereafter. Their daughter, Maria Josefina (Josie), has been coming to St. Stephen’s since birth. She started in the back nursery and now bounces between Godly play and Mass. She is currently a Kindergartener in Ms. Lara’s class at our beloved St. Stephens Episcopal Day School.
Julie began helping out with Godly play assistance and teaching last year which has been tremendously fun and rewarding.
Julie is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami and the Miami VA.

Andrea Subhawong

Andrea grew up in Tennessee and met her husband Ty at summer science camp when they were 15. They both went to Vanderbilt in Nashville for undergrad and medical school and got married in 2003.

They moved to Baltimore for Residency at Johns Hopkins (Andrea in Pathology with a subspecialty in Leukemia/Lymphoma and Ty in Radiology with subspecialty in musculoskeletal disorders and sarcoma).
They have two children (Kai age almost 13 and Maren age 10) and live in Coconut Grove with a zoo of seven cats, all rescues.
They are passionate about environmental causes and supporting the arts, and they love to travel to national parks and learn about geology and fossils. Andrea is a classically trained violinist but understandably has little time to play. They have been coming to St. Stephens since 2018.

Music

Music is a large part of our worship at St. Stephen’s. During the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays our superb, largely volunteer choir, conducted by choir director Gregory Cheng, sings a fine repertoire of Anglican anthems, psalms, and motets.
